What is Brain Gym®?

Brain Gym® is a collective name for a set of exercises or activities that aim to increase access to specific areas in the brain required for performing a task or getting into the right state or mood.

Who developed Brain Gym®?

Dr. Paul Dennison

Brain Gym® was developed in the USA by Dr. Paul Dennison, in the seventies. He had a stutter as a child, so he studied education, looking for answers. He wrote his PhD on "Covert speech" and set up 8 learning centres throughout California where he worked with children who had learning difficulties.

Brain Gym® for Children on the Autism Spectrum

Brain Inflammation

Most children on the autism spectrum have delayed or disrupted speech and language development. Speech is a complicated skill that requires many areas of the brain to work together optimally.

The speech areas are spread all over the brain and if there is neuro-inflammation or regression, speech is often one of the first functions to be affected. This can happen because either the areas themselves are destroyed or they become inaccessible, because the pathways between them are destroyed.

How Can I Learn Brain Gym®?

Brain Gym CD

You can learn Brain Gym® with the help of the Brain Gym® Demo CD. You can then start immediately whether at home or in the classroom.

The CD contains:

  • Pictures of all 26 Brain Gym® activities and an extra 6 variations on Cross Crawl movements to promote brain and sensory integration
  • A PowerPoint presentation explaining how and when to do all activities
  • A PDF and JPG file for the cover
